Getting to and from Guiyang

By Air (Airport Code: KWE)

  • Location: Guiyang Longdong Bao International Airport (KWE) is located about 12 km (7.5 miles) east of the city
  • Brief Intro: Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport was opened in 1997 and began to serve as an international airport in Jan, 2006. The terminal covers an area of 34,000 m2 (8 acres), and the airport has the capacity to serve 5,000,000 passengers a year. Longdongbao International Airport is connected to more than 40 domestic cities and offers flights to Hong Kong, Macao, and Bangkok.

Coming from abroad, you must transfer flights first through an international airport before arriving in Guiyang. The most popular transfer cities are Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. However, Shanghai is the least convenient option as you have to travel from the international airport to the domestic airport in order to catch the flight to Guiyang.

  • Transportation from the Airport:
There is an airport shuttle bus available which you can take for 10 CNY per person per ride. After you get off at the stop in the city, you can catch a taxi to your destination.
  • If you wish to take the shuttle bus to the airport from the city, you can catch it from the CAAC (Civil Aviation Administration of China) Ticket Office at the junction of Zunyi Road and Qingyun Road.
  • If you take a taxi, the fare is 50-60 CNY between the airport and the city. Considering that you need to catch a city bus or a taxi to catch the shuttle bus in the first place, taking a taxi is more convenient.

By Train

  • Guiyang Railway Station is located in downtown Guiyang. At the station, quite a few buses are available, such as No.1, 2, 17, 20,24, etc.

Guiyang acts as the transportation center of Guizhou Province. Transportation links mainly depend on the railway system. There are F four railway directions from Guiyang: first are the northbound trains, going to Chongqing, Chengdu, Xi¡¯an etc.; second are the westbound ones, going to Kunming; third are the eastbound, going to Changsha, Wuhan, Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou etc.; and finally are the ones heading southeast, to Liuzhou and Nanning in Guangxi.
Travelling by train is quite a typical Chinese experience and is quite enjoyable if you feel the least bit adventurous. The trains are well kept and regularly cleaned throughout a long trip and the staff is usually very friendly and helpful. In addition, the sleepers, whether hard or soft, are quite comfortable and easy to sleep on with the soft rocking of the train.

  • Ticket options:
The usual ticket options are the following:
    • Hard seat Ó²×ù (ying zu¨°). This is the cheapest option and it is comfortable enough for a few hours¡¯ travel in daytime.
    • Hard sleeper bunk Ó²ÎÔ (y¨¬ng w¨°): There are 6 sleepers (3 on each side) in each compartment. The highest sleepers have the least space (in height) are the cheapest and least thought after. The lowest sleepers have the most space (in height), are the most expensive and most thought after. Chinese travelers will usually go for the lower bunk bed but a lot of foreign travelers prefer the ¡°privacy¡± of the top bunk.
    • Soft sleeper bunk ÈíÎÔ (ru¨£n w¨°): Although some trains offer a deluxe cabin with two sleepers, this is usually the most expensive option. It contains 4 sleepers per cabin.

Tickets can be purchased a few days in advance.
